An Appeal to His Excellency Gov. Peter Mbah Over Challenges Confronting Primary School Pupils Relocated to Smart Green Schools
The Voice of the Masses has respectfully appealed to Governor Peter Mbah to urgently look into the growing challenges confronting primary school pupils following the relocation of students from nearby community schools to the newly established Smart Green Schools across parts of Enugu State.
While commending the governor’s visionary efforts toward improving the educational sector through the Smart Green School initiative, The Voice of the Masses noted that the implementation process has created serious difficulties for many young pupils and their families, particularly those residing in rural communities.
According to observations gathered from affected communities, many pupils are now compelled to travel long distances daily to access the new schools, a development that has raised growing concerns over the safety, welfare, and academic wellbeing of the children.
The platform noted that the burden of long-distance movement has subjected many pupils to physical stress, fatigue, transportation difficulties, and increased exposure to risks, especially for children of tender age who previously attended schools located within their communities.
It further observed that several parents and guardians are struggling to cope with the financial implications of transportation, while cases of lateness and absenteeism among pupils have also become a growing concern.
The Voice of the Masses emphasized that although the Smart Green School initiative remains a commendable and progressive educational reform, access to primary education should remain convenient, safe, and easily accessible for every child regardless of location.
Consequently, the platform appealed to Governor Peter Mbah to kindly review the situation and consider possible measures that would help reduce the hardship currently being experienced by affected pupils and their families.
Among the recommendations presented were:
Provision of school transportation for pupils in distant communities;
Consideration for the continued operation of some nearby community primary schools;
Policy adjustments in areas where distance poses major challenges to young learners.
The Voice of the Masses expressed confidence in the governor’s compassionate leadership and commitment to the welfare of Ndi Enugu, while expressing hope that the concerns raised would receive urgent attention in the interest of the children and the future of education in the state.
